Headbands

How to accessorise your hair extensions

Headbands are a versatile way to accessories your hair extensions. Being super easy and quick to apply to your hair, they are perfect for every day wear at school or work. For preppy looks we recommend simple hard headbands which neatly fit into the hair. For more dressy occasions or bridal hair, try out a metal headband inspired by gorgeous Grecian looks. These are the perfect way to add a touch of fun to any outfit or hair look. We especially love heads bands with longer hair styles.

Hair Rings

Hair rings have been one of the most popular hair trends this year and here at ZALA, we are loving them! They are the perfect way to edge up a simple hair look. We recommend adding hair rings to tighter braids and hair twists to ensure they are secure. Pair them fun festival looks and are a great edge for simple formal hair for gorgeous results.

Flowers

Adding flowers to your hair extensions will give any look an effortless bohemian and girly vibe. Inspired by 1970s festival looks and elegant stars like Keira Knightley, flowers are a beautiful natural accessory for your extensions. We love soft, light shades for a simple and effortless touch of beauty. The best part is, you can pick them from your own garden! If you love your floral hair looks, we would recommend faux flower clips which can be easily added to braids, waves and formal up-dos.

Hotel Hair Guide

We show you how to get the most out of your hair whilst on vacay (or stay-cay) with our Hotel Hair Guide; Style & care tips when you’re away from home.

Hotel Hair Guide

Hotel Hair Guide

Have a hotel room booked and don’t want to pack all of your styling tools? We don’t blame you! Here’s how to get the most out of your hair when on vacay or stay-cay utilising the most out of the amenities provided by your hotel.

Built In Hairdryer

We are all thinking it. The built in hair dryer that is available in most hotel bathrooms may not be something to brag about, however when you want to pack light, this little tool can get the job done! In order for you to get the most out of your hotel hair dryer, we would suggest gently drying your hair thoroughly with a towel after washing.

Tip: To prevent frizz, pat dry your hair in a downwards motion.

Once your hair is slightly damp, section your hair using a hair tie, and blow dry in a downward motion. This should allow for your hair to be relaxed and manageable to wear out or for a voluminous up do.

Amenity Kits

Amenity kits are your perfect solution to not have to worry about packing essential products like Shampoo and Conditioner. Most hotels provide these personal care products for their guests. Depending on the hotel you are staying at, you may also have access to higher end products which may not contain sulphates or parabens which are hair extension safe! If so, wash away!

Wet Style Your Hair

Styling your hair once you are out of the shower will allow you to save time and effort whilst still having a cute hair do. Once you have washed your hair, towel dry it and style in a double dutch braid.

Argan Oil

Pure argan oil is an incredible way to get dry hair healthy again. Argan oil comes from extracts of the argan tree, therefore making it 100% natural, safe and chemical-free! This oil is perfect for anyone with dry or frizzy hair looking to add back moisture quickly and easily. Simply add a few drops to dry hair for smoother, softer, and shinier hair.

Best Oils for Healthy Hair

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is known as the holy grail of natural oils. It is great for all hair types or anyone who is looking to add shine and get their hair soft and healthy. For the best results, we recommend coating your hair in it, concentrating the product at the ends and leaving it in your hair overnight. When you wash your hair in the morning, it will feel softer and healthy than ever! (be sure to protect your pillowcase with a towel, or wear a shower cap overnight)

Best Oils for Healthy Hair

Almond Oil

Almond oil is another fantastic natural oil that will help improve the condition of your hair. It contains Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E which nourishes and strengthens your hair, but can sooth an itchy scalp and dandruff. For the best results, heat up a small amount in the microwave (be careful not to make it too hot!) and apply it to the hair. The heat will open up your hair cuticle and allow for enhanced moisturising. You can rub the oil into your scalp and use a brush to allow the product to be evenly dispersed along the length of your hair. We would recommend leaving this over night and washing it out in the morning for soft and healthy hair.

Best Oils for Healthy Hair

Castor Oil

Castor oil has amazing hair growth promoting properties. Like many other oils, its best results come from applying it to hair overnight and washing it out in the morning. If you want long and healthy hair, castor oil masks are the best solution for you!

Best Oils for Healthy Hair

Marula Oil

Marula oil is loaded with Vitamin C, therefore can help protect hair from any damaging UV rays or heat from styling tools. This miracle oil will not only get your hair healthy again and allow for the softest locks, but has a beautiful floral scent. If you’re not a fan of the smell of other natural oils such as coconut oil or almond oil, marula oil is a perfect alternative.

BEFORE YOU GO: HOW TO PACK YOUR EXTENSIONS

If you’re planning on taking your ZALA clip in extensions to your destination of choice, always make sure you pack them right! Follow our instructions for safe packing below:

  1. Brush out your extensions with a travel sized brush, such as our Tangle Tamer, to remove any tangles or knots before packing them.
  2. Clip your extensions into their hanger and place them inside the protective bag – we would recommend our Protect Me Bag to keep your locks safe and frizz free.
  3. Once your suit case is about half full, lay the Protect Me Bag flat on top and pack your remaining clothes and items over the top. This will keep them kink free and avoid any tangling during transit.

GETTING THERE: IN FLIGHT HAIR CARE FOR YOUR EXTENSIONS

Planes can really dry out your skin and your hair, so it is important you treat your extensions right when travelling via plane. These are out top tips on caring for your tapes or clip ins during your flight:

  1. To avoid any tangling when sleeping or sitting for long periods, we would recommend braiding your hair. This will keep your extensions tangle free and in great shape once you have arrived at your destination.
  2. Leave in conditioning treatments are easy to use and a great way to add moisture back into your hair after a long flight! You can even do them before boarding your flight to keep your hair feeling soft and smooth all the way there.
  3. Silk pillow cases are the best option for any extension lover! That’s why we always make sure to bring one on the plane. You can simply pop it over the pillow provided on the plane (or even your own) to keep your hair silky smooth.

YOU’VE ARRIVED: HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR EXTENSIONS ON HOLIDAYS

If you’re planning on swimming on your holiday, it is important to take care of your extensions accordingly. Salt and chlorinated water can cause damage to extensions without proper use. Follow these tips to keep them soft and healthy:

  1. After swimming in salt or chlorinated water, always be sure to rinse your hair with fresh water to remove any residual salt/chlorine that could dry out and damage your extensions.
  2. Using an extension safe brush (like our Tangle Tamer) brush through your hair before it dries. This will allow your hair to dry without any knots and helps avoid snagging.
  3. It is super important to incorporate deep conditioning treatments when swimming regularly. As your extensions cannot generate their own oils, deep conditioners are the perfect way to add back some moisture to your hair after swimming.
  4. Most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy your time on your holiday with your long and beautiful hair!Follow us on Instagram to keep up with our favourite holiday looks!
