Clarifying Shampoo Explained

Hair products, chlorine and environmental impurities can all leave hair and scalp buildup over time. We explore what is a clarifying shampoo and how it can be a beneficial addition to your hair care routine.

CLARIFYING SHAMPOO

Clarifying Shampoo Explained

Clarifying shampoos are taking the hair and beauty community by storm! There is an abundance of these shampoos in the market so we explore what is a clarifying shampoo. We also discuss the benefits of using this product.

Please remember: when choosing a clarifying shampoo, to choose one which is Sulphate free to avoid drying out your hair.

What is a Clarifying Shampoo?

Product build up and environment can affect the look and feel of your natural hair. Product build up includes the use of shampoos and conditioners that contain parabens and silicones which coat the hair to make it appear shiny, as well as styling pomades and hair spray. Environmental factors include pollution, cigarette smoke and dust.

Every once in a while, it’s recommended to bring your hair back to it’s natural state by providing an intense clean. This can be achieved with a clarifying shampoo!

Benefits of a Clarifying Shampoo

CLARIFYING SHAMPOO

#1: Intense Clean

A Sulphate free clarifying shampoo can provide an intense clean to hair that has oil and product built up throughout. Bear in mind that frequent use of such shampoos may dry out your hair, therefore we suggest using it once every 1-2 weeks.

CLARIFYING SHAMPOO

#2: Pre-treatment step

Using a clarifying shampoo as a step before a deep conditioning mask will allow your hair to absorb the treatment in the most effective way as it will clear away any product build up or residue.

Clarifying Shampoo

#3: Volume Booster

By removing grease and product build up from your hair, it will be lighter and appear more voluminous. This is great for people with naturally oily hair who want to achieve more volume.

Want to add even more volume to your natural hair? Feel free to check out our Colour Match Service for a perfect match to one of our ZALA shades.

Please note: Clarifying shampoos may be beneficial to your natural hair when used occasionally. If your hair is colour treated we would suggest a colour friendly shampoo as it may fade the colour much quicker.  We always recommend washing hair extensions only when needed with a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner.

DIY scalp Scrub

DIY Scalp Scrub

We’ve researched the best ingredients to ensure your DIY scalp scrub is effective and affordable.

DIY scalp SCRUB

Coffee and Coconut Oil, the two holy grails to make themselves known in the beauty community. These two items you will easily find in your pantry at home, and if you don’t have them on hand, you will be able to pick them up for cheap at your nearest grocery store.

What you’ll need:

  • Ground Coffee Beans (2 Teaspoons)
  • Cold Pressed Coconut oil (2 Tablespoons)

For this DIY Scalp Scrub, a little goes a long way! We would suggest making batches as you need them. For this scrub 1-2 table spoons of coconut oil and 2 teaspoons of ground coffee beans will do the trick!

Method:

  1. In a small plastic container, combine the ingredients using a spoon. You’ll find that the coconut oil does soften quickly therefore you should be able to mix this with the coffee easily.
  2. In the shower, wet your hair with warm water to encourage this scrub to spread.
  3. Gently massage your DIY Coffee & Coconut Oil scrub into your scalp for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Thoroughly rinse out of your hair and follow by washing your hair as normal with sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. (You may need to shampoo your hair 2-3 times to ensure your hair is not left greasy.)

Let your hair dry and enjoy feeling invigorated!

The Benefits of coffee and coconut Oil for your scalp and hair

By invigorating your scalp and roots with a scrub, it promotes blood flow and oxygen to the surface of your scalp, promoting hair growth and volume. Coconut oil is also very hydrating and naturally contains Hyaluronic Acid which is also beneficial to cuticle regeneration. Your hair will appear refreshed and shiny.

Winter Skin Tip #1: Stay Hydrated!

It is important to keep yourself hydrated in the colder months. It’s easy  to forget to drink water when we are not sitting in the heat or working up a sweat walking from our front door to the car. Ensuring you are hydrated will boost collagen in your body ensuring your hair, skin, and nails will stay strong, plump and hydrated.

Winter Skin Care Tips

Winter Skin Tip #2: Silk Pillow Case
