So, why has your hair become stained with hues of blue or purple? Well, you may have either over toned your hair, the toner is too strong, you’ve applied too much or your hair is very porous. Uh oh! Luckily, there are ways to reverse this! And they’re not too damaging either – bonus! Let’s get into how to fix over-toned hair:

How to Fix Over-Toned Hair

Clarifying Shampoo

The first and most obvious process of removing toner from your hair is to wash multiple times with a clarifying shampoo. This process is not the most effective, however, it is the least stripping. Make sure you get washing immediately after you notice you have over-toned those locks! Most toners are not permanent, therefore eventually, after several washes, the ‘cool’ tones will fade. If you’re wanting that toner gone quicker, 2-3 washes with a clarifying shampoo will start to remove the blue, grey or purple stains.

Baking Soda

This next method can be used after shampooing your hair. Simply grab 1-2 tablespoons (depending on the amount of hair you have) and start massaging into your hair. Leave this in for a minute or two and rinse. As baking soda has brightening qualities, this will help to strip the toner and gradually bring back golden tones.

Dishwashing liquid

A slightly more stronger ingredient in the quest of how to fix over toned hair is dishwashing soap/liquid. Take a small amount and lather up into your hair, just like you would your regular shampoo. Again, get to your hair ASAP and leave for a couple minutes before rinsing. Dishwashing liquid is very clarifying and stripping, therefore this will leave your hair feeling dry and brittle. It’s super important to follow up with an intensive, deep conditioning treatment to bring back the moisture into your hair.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Lastly, diluted hydrogen peroxide will strip those unwanted shades from your over toned hair. This is very stripping and harsh on your hair, so it is imperative you indulge your hair in a few conditioning treatments after this process. To remove the toner, dilute with water and spray onto your hair. Make sure to only leave this on for a minute to minimize damage. After rinsing, apply a deep conditioning treatment and leave overnight for best results. This will bring back the good stuff to your suffering hair, and keep it feeling and looking super healthy.

Before we get into the numerous benefits, we thought we’d point out the things you need to know about this all natural beauty staple:

  • What is it? Coconut oil is the ‘fatty’ oil derived from coconuts. It is a creamy, white solid at room temperature and melts into its liquefied form at 24 degrees Celsius.

  • Where can I find it? Coconut oil can be found at pretty much all supermarkets and health food stores. And, it is cheap!

  • What type is best? Certified organic, unrefined, virgin coconut oil is best for beauty and health purposes.

Intensively conditions hair

Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil
Coconut oil as an intensive hair treatment

Definitely, our favourite when it comes to the beauty benefits of coconut oil. Coconut oil can be used as a deep conditioning mask for your hair! This will add maximum shine, moisture and elasticity back into your locks. At ZALA, this is one of our holy grail hair masks. It deeply penetrates hair follicles to replenish dry and damaged tresses. Apply a generous amount and leave in your hair for an hour for a quick treatment. Or, for an intensive hair mask, leave wrapped in a towel or shower cap and rinse in the morning! Important tip! Make sure you shampoo your hair 2-3 times to completely remove the greasy finish.

Moisturizes and Hydrates Skin

As we are coming into the colder months, coconut oil is the perfect remedy for dry skin. Apply a small amount into the palm of your hands, and apply like your normal moisturizer. Don’t forget about your body! Coconut oil can also be used an all over body lotion. This acts as a highly effective moisturizer to increase your skin’s hydration. The fatty and hydrating properties of coconut oil leave softer, youthful looking skin.

Encourages eyelash and eyebrow growth

Still recovering from over plucking your brows? Or wanting to grow and thicken your lashes fast? Try coconut oil! Simply apply a small amount on any areas where hair is sparse. This will promote cell growth, thicken eyebrows and create longer, fuller lashes. Another one of our favourite beauty benefits of coconut oil at ZALA.

Repairs and softens cuticles

Say goodbye to dry cuticles! Rub a small amount of coconut oil into your cuticles to strengthen nails and hydrate the surrounding skin. Apply after painting your nails for a longer lasting manicure and youthful looking hands.

Removes makeup

Even waterproof makeup will easily wipe away with a little coconut oil! Use a dab of this holy grail oil to break down any stubborn mascara, lipstick or foundation. This will not only remove all makeup with ease but will also double as an eye cream and lip balm keeping the delicate skin hydrated and supple. Just be careful to not get it directly in your eyes, of course!

Tames and smooths frizz

Flyaways, begone! Coconut oil could definitely be one of the cheapest hair oils. Tame frizz by taking a small amount and create a film over the palms of your hands. Simply smooth through the mid to end sections of your hair. And there you have it! Instant softness and added shine.

Whitens teeth

Possibly one of the strangest beauty benefits of coconut oil: teeth whitening. Yep, you heard right! Many people SWEAR by the unique remedy also known as oil-pulling. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties that whiten teeth, improve the health of gums and promotes fresh breath. Simply swish a tablespoon amount of coconut oil around your mouth for around 20 minutes a day to see results.

The result: baby smooth skin!

How Many Pieces of Tape Hair Extensions for a Full Head

In the ever-evolving hair industry, tape hair extensions have provided both consumers and stylists with a system so easy and quick to apply. A full head of tape hair can be applied in under 30 minutes! But, have you ever wondered how many pieces of tape hair extensions for a full head? For good reasons, this is one of the most common questions the ZALA team receive about our AAAAA grade tape extensions. Not to fear! We give you the rundown on how many pieces you will require getting a full head of long and luscious locks!

20 piece pack

Many people often inquire about 20 pieces packs as this is the cheapest available pack. This is ONLY considered a ‘booster’ pack for those who already have tape extensions and want a few new pieces or need extra volume. A 20 piece pack will NOT be enough for any hair type as this will only make 10 sandwiches of hair. When putting in tape extensions, 2 pieces are sandwiched at the root over sections of your hair.  As you can probably imagine, a 20 piece set will definitely not be enough for a full head of hair.

40 piece pack

The least amount of pieces we recommend for all customers is our 40 piece packs. This pack is enough for thin to normal hair types and is ideal for ladies with fine hair. A 40 piece pack is considered a standard amount of tape hair extensions, as many people find they use between 30-40 pieces. This, of course, creates 20 sandwiches of hair. We are absolutely in love with this before and after photo below using our premium ZALA Tape extensions!

60 piece pack

Finally, the 60 piece pack. This amount is perfect for those with thick hair or wants to add a lot of overall volume. For those whose natural hair is medium/thick, or have quite a coarse hair type, this pack is perfect. We usually recommend this option when we get asked how many pieces of tape hair extensions for a full head of hair. This will obviously create 30 sandwiches which are a lot to hold if your hair is not super thick. Our 60 piece sets will create a full overall look with extra thickness and super volume.

Keep in mind! Your hairstyle and cut are very important when blending tape hair extensions. It does not only depend on how many pieces you purchase for a full head. If you are struggling to make your extensions blend, your hair should usually always be thinned out towards the ends. This can be achieved with the use of layers or specific cutting techniques. Having thinner ends in your natural hair will create a seamless blend and no harsh lines where your natural hair ends.

We hope this helps you determine exactly how many pieces of tape extensions for a full head of hair! For our premium range of European Tape Hair extensions, click here.

Making Clip in Hair Extensions Look Realistic

Most celebrities wear hair extensions, and fashion-conscious individuals are using this trick to improve their own looks. Making your hair extensions look realistic properly can help make sure that they look natural. This will enhance your style, without drawing too much attention to the hair extensions.

05_Flatbed_1 - MARCH Original Filename: 77513518.jpg

Pick a Flattering Style

Some of the best ways to make your hair extensions look realistic are to gently tease them in with the rest of your hair.

1: Blending extensions into your natural hair with gentle curls can help to minimize the obvious differences between the two types of hair.

2: Adding a purposely faux element, such as a braided headband, can help to draw attention away from the extensions, making them seem like a more natural part of the overall look.

3: When pulling the hair up, place the extensions under the crown and gently blend into your natural hair. This can help to hide any seams that can make it obvious you are wearing a hairpiece.

4: Ponytails also help to hide the ends of extensions, adding volume without making the hair look artificial. For a more formal occasion, twist your hair up into a bun.

When selecting a hairstyle to wear with extensions, it is better to select a style that focuses on volume rather than looking sleek and styled. Try to minimize a style that focuses too heavily on your part, this can make it hard to hide the clips.

Add Some Style

High-quality hair extensions take to styling very well and this can be a great way to get more out of your overall look.

1: Braids can help to camouflage clip-ins by weaving the artificial strands of hair in with your natural tresses. In a large, messy braid it will be nearly impossible to tell where your extensions are sitting.

2: Add a bit of curl. This will help to blend your hair in with the extensions and add volume to your style.

3: Don’t be afraid to cut your extensions to match your hair length. Matching the length of the extensions to your natural hair will make it much easier to blend them in.

4: Brush your extensions out lightly ahead of time, taking care not to pull in such a way that you will damage them.

When you are curling or adding a product to extensions, make sure that you read any instructions on your product first. Heat or sticky products can damage artificial extensions, in some cases scorching them and rendering them unusable.

Purchase the Right Product

1: Make sure the colour you select is perfect for your hair. If you dye your hair, dye your extensions too so they match.

2: Stick with clip ins. Glues can be very damaging to your hair. Those that are already battling issues with thin hair will find that these more permanent solutions can make their problems even worse.

3: Pick a texture that matches your natural elements. If you have curly hair, it is going to be impossible to blend straight extensions in and make them look natural, and vice versa.

Once you get used to styling hair extensions you will be able to blend them in flawlessly.
