How To Beat Humidity

Does your hair seem to get worse whenever the humid weather kicks in? Does it become 10x frizzier and more haggard-looking during this time? Don’t fret, we’re here to the rescue!

In today’s article, we’ve included some tips on how to beat humidity regardless of the season!

1. Use lightweight shampoo and conditioner

The first thing you have to do is to start your hair routine right. Remember, products that weigh heavy on your hair can worsen your hair’s condition in humid weather.

That’s why it’s best to use lightweight products, such as hydrating or clarifying shampoo and conditioner. These products can help reduce and even avoid frizz completely, letting you beat humidity right from the start.

2. Airdry instead of using heat

We’ve said it time and time and again: heat is your hair’s biggest enemy. It strips your hair of moisture and makes it more at risk of getting dehydrated.

Of course, dry hair and humidity don’t mix well, so it’s highly important to avoid drying out your hair in the first place. After your shower, skip the blowdryer and opt instead to just airdry your hair. Not only can you save a bit on electricity bills, you’re also giving your strands their much-needed rest from all the unnecessary heat.

3. Use a little serum

Serums are certainly heaven-sent for gals like us who always have to deal with pesky hair issues. While we would all love to get naturally gorgeous hair straight out of bed, sometimes a little help is required in the form of hair products, too.

In this case, you can use a little serum on the ends of your strands to help tame your frizz and flyaways. Work your way up from the ends, taking care not to put any product on the roots. Applying serum on your roots can cause your hair to become too oily or greasy.

4. Spray on some heat protectant

Given that heat is such a huge enemy for your strands, it’s an absolute must to use a product that can protect your hair from the heat.

This is where heat protectants come in. Not only do they protect your strands from the harsh rays of the sun, but they can also help soften your hair, making it more manageable. Simply apply some product to your strands and comb through with your fingers.

5. Set your hair with hairspray

You can curb some of the bad effects of humidity on your crowning glory by setting your hair with hairspray at the end of your hair routine. It’s not exactly a remedy, per se, but at least it helps you avoid any additional frizz.

5 Tips When Caring For Naturally Curly Hair

It’s no secret that curly hair looks amazing. But let’s be honest, it can also very hard to maintain! For today’s article, here are 5 tips when caring for naturally curly hair!

zala-tips-naturally-curly-hair

Don’t wash your hair too often

No hair type in the world deserves a daily washing, especially not curly hair. After all, curly hair is already dry by nature. It’s no surprise that w ashing your hair daily will only further dry your hair out.

Washing too often, more so if it’s with shampoo, is extremely detrimental to your hair’s health. Dry hair can suffer from many problems, such as breakage and split ends. This makes curly hair even more fragile, so make sure to always use a conditioner when showering to prevent dryness.

Use hair serums to soften strands

Hair serums can be a lifesaver for dull, lifeless strands. They’re extremely concentrated hair products, which means they’re very effective for treating specific hair issues and problems.

Many serums can also greatly improve the texture of dry hair, thanks to their nourishing and moisturizing capabilities. Just make sure to pick one that was formulated specifically for dry hair so that you’ll know that you’re getting everything that you need.

Don’t brush your locks

Curly hair isn’t meant to be brushed naturally. Boar-bristle brushes may be excellent for straight or even wavy hair, but they can instantly turn your hair from gorgeous to pure frizz.

After showering, or whenever you feel like your hair needs some ‘brushing’, just use a wide-toothed comb to remove all tangles. Start from the bottom, detangling all the way up. This way, you’re avoiding any unnecessary stress to your hair

Do the pineapple

It’s no surprise that curly hair can be pretty hard to maintain, but there are plenty of tricks to make your curls more defined. One of them is the pineapple method, a tried and tested method for keeping your hair looking lovely overnight.

Curious to try it? It’s actually really easy. You just have to bunch your hair up at the top of your head, putting it in a loose bun until you wake up in the morning. This prevents your hair from getting flattened or matted down while you’re sound asleep.

Trim your hair regularly

Since curly hair is very prone to hair issues like split ends, it’s important that you’re diligent with your salon schedule. Always get your hair trimmed an inch or two every six to eight weeks, for optimum results. This ensures that you’re nipping in the bud any breakages or bad ends that may damage your hair in the long run.

How To Keep Your Scalp Healthy

It’s rare to see people making an effort to keep their scalp healthy, but the truth is, it’s something that deserves more attention. If your scalp itself is already damaged, how can you expect to grow healthy strands?

Indeed, a healthy scalp is the key to having healthy strands. In this article, we’ll talk about the different ways on how you too can keep your scalp healthy.

zala-keep-scalp-healthy

Don’t shampoo every day

Daily shampooing – and washing – is not good, whether for your strands or for your scalp.

Both water and shampoo are extremely drying, as they can strip away your scalp’s natural oils. Of course, letting your hair become oily is not good, but keeping it stone dry isn’t ideal either.

It’s best to strike a balance between a two which means regular, but not frequent, washing should do the trick.

Don’t forget to exfoliate

Your scalp is part of your skin as well, and as you know, exfoliation is very important in keeping your skin healthy.

To say it simply, exfoliation helps your skin (and scalp) by preventing the build-up of dead skin on the surface. It also helps scrub away dirt and dead skin, thus giving way to the healthy skin underneath.

When it comes to your scalp, exfoliation can help prevent dandruff. It can also help you keep your hair cleaner for longer.

Do be gentle on your scalp

At the same time, it’s important to always be gentle on your scalp too.

When you’re combing or brushing your hair, make sure that you’re not pushing the comb or brush too deep.

If you’re scalp’s itchy, try not to scratch it too much, especially if you have long fingernails. Doing so could damage and even wound your scalp, which could open you up to new problems.

When you’re shampooing or conditioning your hair, just rub gently so as not to accidentally hurt your scalp while you’re in the shower.

Do occasional scalp massages

Scalp massages are very helpful for keeping your scalp healthy and stimulated. You don’t have to do it often, but a massage once or twice a week is very good for improving blood circulation in your scalp, promoting healthy hair growth and improving your strands’ condition.

To see more benefits of scalp massages for your hair, here’s our article about this topic.

Do use hair oils

You can use hair oils to keep your hair, and your strands, moisturized at all times. Some of the best hair oils for your hair are listed in here.

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, add in a few drops of hair oil to your hair in order to keep your scalp moisturized as you go about your day. Remember, a well-nourished scalp is less likely to develop dandruff, itchy scalp, and eczema.

Other than that, hair oils can also help protect your strands from pollution in the environment, as well as the sun’s harmful rays.

Guide To Layering Hair Products

Contrary to popular belief, the order of which you use your hair products actually matters a lot.

Honestly, it takes a certain kind of special way to properly and effectively use your favorite products to benefit your strands. And in today’s article, we’ll present to you our guide to layering hair products properly for best results!

zala-layering-hair-products

The Importance Of Layering

“But ZALA,” you may ask, “what does it matter what order we use our hair products? They all get absorbed by our strands anyway.”

While it’s true that they all get absorbed by our strands anyway, how effective the product will be does depend on how well your strands may absorb them.

And see, if you use a thick product first before a thinner product, do you think the latter will get properly absorbed? No, because the former will have already been all soaked up by your strands. And your strands can only take so much.

Layering Hair Products Guide

Now, there are many, many hair products out there, and we can’t possibly list down every single one.

However, one rule of thumb is to always use the thinnest or lightest hair product on first before the thicker, heavier ones. If you’re staying on your toes regarding your skincare routine, this will be familiar to you, as the rules of skincare pretty much adhere to the same logic.

Shampoo

The first part of your hair care routine, at least in terms of products, should be shampoo. We can’t stress enough just how important it is to clean your hair thoroughly first before beginning your routine. If you start with dirty hair, you’ll only end up locking all the dirt inside, which is obviously a huge no-no.

Conditioner

After cleaning your hair, it’s now time to replenish all the lost natural oils from the wash. This is where a conditioner comes in. Not only does it condition your hair, but it also moisturizes and nourishes it. Make sure to use a deep conditioner at least twice a month for best results.

Leave-in Conditioner

There are different kinds of leave-in conditioner, but they are generally used right after you shower. Most are cream-type and are very light on the hair. If you tend to have oily hair though, you might want to try gel type instead.

Hair Serum

Hair serums vary in thickness and consistency, but it’s usually best to use one after your leave-in conditioner. Make sure to choose a hair serum that suits your hair best.

Hair Oils / Heat Protectants

Since hair oils are generally much thicker than both hair serums and leave-in conditioners, they go last in your hair care routine. Heat protectants go last too, if you’re going to use heat styling tools on your hair.

Hair Spray / Styling Cream / Mousse

Styling products are already outside the hair care routine jurisdiction, but they’re worth mentioning as well since a lot of people use them regularly. Remember, these go after the actual hair care part.

Now that you understand the importance of layering, you’re well on your way to establishing a good hair care routine that your crowning glory will absolutely thank you for.

How To Make Your Hair Instantly Thicker

We already covered how to get thick hair in one of our previous articles, but we have to admit that getting your hair to grow thicker is not something that can be done overnight. Patience is a virtue, certainly, but what if you need thick hair like, right now?

Don’t fret – ZALA is here to the rescue! Here are our best tips and tricks on how to make your hair instantly thicker!

zala-make-hair-instantly-thicker

Dry your hair the right way

While we don’t recommend using a blowdryer to do your hair, this trick is a lot easier if you’re using one. Remember to use a heat protectant before using heat-styling tools on your strands!

Once you’ve spread a generous amount of heat protectant, simply flip your hair upside down and start blow-drying your hair from the roots down to the ends. Drying your roots first prevents them from drying limply, which can make your hair look lifeless.

You can also use a round brush to ‘fluff’ your hair, giving it a more voluminous look.

Use volumizing products

Volumizing products are there for a reason, and they’re absolutely perfect for this purpose.

Before putting any on your hair though, make sure that you’re following instructions properly. Some volumizing products require you to put them on damp hair, others on dry hair. Doing otherwise can cause some things to go wrong.

Part your hair differently

Have you ever tried parting your hair a different way than it usually is? If so, then you know what exactly we’re talking about. If not, you should try it – you’ll see just how different your hair looks like in a flash.

Indeed, one of the best ways to make your hair instantly thicker is to try a different part than usual. Since your hair is not used to being parted that way, it will also not fall straight down, which will give the illusion of volume.

Change your hairstyle

A change of hairstyle is a more drastic measure than the other tricks here, but it does make sense.

For example, straight cuts tend to look flattered than, say, layered cuts. If you really want to make you hair look different, in a good way, you can try experimenting with new styles to see which ones looks best on you.

Wear some hair extensions

Last but definitely not the least, you can make your hair instantly thicker by wearing hair extensions. Hair extensions can drastically change the look of your hair, which is good if you’re looking for a quick fix.

Luckily, ZALA is here for all your hair extension needs. You can check out our vast collection of hair extensions, coming in all types, colors, and lengths. If you need any help in selecting the best one for you, don’t hesitate to comment below!
