How to tell the difference between human and synthetic hair extensions?

Shade

Human hair extensions make use of multi-tonal technology for ultra-natural shades. They are more often available in ashy tones that synthetic hair extensions are not available in and can be toned and dyed to match your hair.

Synthetic hair extensions are usually flat, single-toned with unnatural looking shades. Often they are very warm toned shades with no ashiness and cannot be toned or dyed to match your own hair.

Texture

Human hair has a softer, silkier and more moisturised texture. These extensions are made from a natural protein and are therefore much softer to touch.

Synthetic hair extensions have a rougher, dryer texture as they are not made from natural proteins and therefore do not retain moisture. Therefore, they are much rougher and dryer to touch. Often synthetic hair will clump together when touched.

Synthetic hair can have unnatural results with difficulty blending with your own natural hair. This hair is also much more likely to tangle and matte.

  1. Begin by applying your extensions and curling your hair using the ZALA Cosmo Curling Wand.
  2. Take a section of hair from behind your ear and braid this piece as desired.
  3. Loosen the braid with your fingers for added volume and texture.
  4. Wrap the braid over your head and bobby pin inlace behind your ear on the other side.
  5. Pull out pieces of hair to frame your face and repeat on the other side.

#2: Pull Through Braid

  1. Pull your hair to one side and secure into a low side ponytail.
  2. Take a small piece of hair and wrap around the base of your pony to hide the elastic.
  3. Split your ponytail into two sections horizontally.
  4. Create a gap in the middle and pull the bottom section through to the front.
  5. Gently pull the outside of the braid to loosen the hair and add more volume.

  1. At the temples, section off your hair and tie into a loose bun at the crown of your head.
  2. Loosen your hair to conceal any visible wefts and pull out piece to frame the face.
  3. Take a section from one side and create a regular or fishtail braid.

ZALA Hair Extension Toning Guide

When toning tape extensions, it’s important to leave approximately a 1cm gap between the tape tabs and the hair you are applying the product to. This will ensure the adhesive is not disrupted or affected for application.

What you’ll need:

How To:

  1. Fill your sink with warm water
  2. Making sure the tape tabs remain completely dry, submerge each piece in the water so that the hair is damn prior to toning. This helps to ensure the toner achieves an even coverage and seamless results.
  3. Add a squeeze of toning shampoo into the water and swish around until completely dissolved.
  4. When toning hair extensions, always test your product on one single piece first to ensure it gives the results you desire.
  5. Dip each piece into the water and gently massage the shampoo evenly throughout the hair.
  6. Work quickly to avoid overturning the hair!
  7. Once toned, set pieces aside and leave for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Empty the since and rinse the hair thoroughly, starting with the piece that was toned first.
  9. Apply a ZALA’s Smooth Talker Conditioner throughout each piece and leave on for 5-10 minutes to deeply condition the hair before rinsing out thoroughly.
  10. Apply a small amount of ZALA’s Revive Me Treatment on your extensions whilst wet for extra hydration, nourishment and added shine.
  11. Once your extensions are completely dry, brush through each piece gently and straighten to finish!
