BARELY-THERE WAVES

Barely-there waves are that perfectly undone, supermodel look. Think Gigi Hadid & Kendall Jenner. Also known as flat waves, they’re super effortless and make the perfect everyday hairstyle. There’s no doubting why we absolutely LOVE the barely-there waves at ZALA, so let’s get into exactly how to get the look:

  1. Starting with second or third-day hair, give your locks a quick brush through to ensure there are no knots and tangles. This style works best with a little extra grip! So if you’ve got freshly washed hair be sure to have some extra texturising products on hand. Dry shampoo is perfect for adding texture and hold prior to styling.
  2. Next, apply hair extensions for a bit of added length and thickness. This can stop the look from appearing too messy by thickening up any wispy ends. For best results, we like to opt for a shorter, more everyday length such as our 16 or 20-inch sets at ZALA.
  3. It’s time to start curling! Taking a medium sized curling wand such as the ZALA Cosmo Wand 28mm barrel, take 1-inch sections and curl the middle of the hair only. The key to barely-there waves is to keep the root and the tip of the hair straight! This adds a subtle wave and creates a really textured, undone look.barely-there waves
  4. Once all the hair has been styled, give it a quick comb through with your fingers to break up the waves slightly.
  5. Finish with a light spritz of texturizing spray and you’re done! You’ll find this look will need little to no touching up throughout the day, as the more ‘worn in’ the better. Perfect for those lazy hair days.

Banana Bun Hair Trend

Say hello to the banana bun! This Parisian hair trend has been taking over Pinterest and will be your new go-to lazy day hairstyle. So, what exactly is a banana bun? Read on for everything you need to know.

banana bun
The super chic, must-do hair trend of the season.

BANANA BUN

First things first, what is the banana bun? Essentially, it’s the cool-girl, messier take on the classic French twist. The banana bun embraces fly aways and messy locks for that perfectly undone look. It takes no real form, with its only characteristics being low slung, twisted and more vertical in shape. All the while looking super chic! It’s the ultimate lazy girl hairstyle which we think it’s going to take your usual topknots place.

What we love most about this French girl style is that it’s super low maintenance and so easy to achieve. Here’s how to nail the look:

  1. Start with some texture and grip in your hair prior to styling. You can use dry shampoo or a texturising spray. Otherwise, the banana bun works perfectly on messy second or third-day hair. We also find this style works best on straight hair, so for best results, quickly run over your locks with a straightener.
  2. With plenty of bobby pins on hand, twist, tie or roll your hair up into a low bun. Rather than using an elastic, use bobby pins to secure your locks into place. Keep pinning until everything is secure.
  3. Next, pull out some pieces at the front and loosen the bun using your fingers. The aim of the game is to create a super relaxed, oblong bun. And the messier and more asymmetric, the better!

Yep, that’s it. It’s really that easy! What are your thoughts on the banana bun? We think it’s going to be a serious hair trend for 2017.

Get out your straightener – sleek, straight hair is back! The key to this trend is pin-straight, ultra shiny locks with a neat centre parting. For a super polished look, use a hair brush whilst straightening your locks. Then finish with hair oil for added shine and a spritz of hairspray to smooth down any flyways. We love how it slims down the face and makes any outfit look super stylish.

easy halloween hairstyles

First up is this vampy chic look, creating some classic vintage curls. This style is super sexy and perfect for those who prefer to look a little more glam! For that signature old Hollywood style with loads of volume, we used a 20 inch 9 piece set of ZALA clip in hair extensions to add length and thickness. Clip in hair extensions instantly transforms your look because they are perfect if you’re looking for a super easy Halloween hairstyle. We curled the hair using our go-to styling tool – the ZALA Cosmo Wand – to create these stunning vintage waves. For this look, create a deep side parting and make sure you curl each piece in the same direction. This makes sure that when you’re locks are brushed out, they form that signature ‘S’ shape. Finish with a red lip and some vampire fangs and the look is complete!

Next up, this super bad ass girl gang look. Again, this style is really easy to do yet still packs a punch! For this look, volume is key. And although you can achieve the style with your natural locks, we think clip in hair extensions make all the difference! For a serious volume boost, we applied a 14 inch 9 piece set of clip in hair extensions to our girl Madeleine’s hair. Then to create really tight, defined curls, we styled the set using the ZALA Cosmo wand Spiral attachment. Once all the hair is curled, brush through slightly and tease for added volume & texture. Finish with a bandana and you’re done!

Best Hairstyle for Face Shape

Hair trends, colours, and styles change faster than you can say “breaking the bank” but the most important thing to remember is to stick to hairstyles that suit YOU! We’re talking about the best hairstyle for face shape.

So what’s the best hairstyle for face shape?

Well, there are some simple rules to be guided by to ensure you have the best hairstyles to suit your face shape!

What is your face shape?
What is your face shape?

Hairstyles for round faces

Long hair is perfect for round faces as is creates length to the face. Giving your hair shape around the face will create beautiful soft layers however try and keep them sitting a few inches below the chin or longer.

Soft side swept bangs will create gentle movement and shape and is a great hairstyle for round faces. Try and avoid harsh straight bangs so you don’t create an even rounder face.

Creating soft waves aiming outwards from the face and starting around the chin is a great easy style to create and will frame the face beautifully.

As you can see, the left image totally enhances Kirsten Dunst’s round face in comparison to the right image where you can see how the added length and soft texture lengthens and works really well.

Hairstyles for square faces

Square face shapes have many options when it comes to finding hairstyles for square faces. Many famous faces today have a strong, angular jawline which looks great with a wide range of hairstyles and takes the best photographs. Lucky you!

Long bobs are great for square faces.

Top celebs like Keira Nightly have a serious square face however always pull off the perfect hairstyles for square faces. Long bobs all one length ending a few inches below the jawline will add style and elongate rather than widen the face, which is the best hairstyle for face shape!

Hairstyles for long faces

Creating volume and shaping around the face with layers will widen the face and bring the attention up to the eyes. You want to avoid slicked down, dead straight styles with no shaping as this will bring the eyes downwards and elongate your face more.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair full of volume!

Celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker are known for their long faces however by ensuring that they keep their styles big and curly and not too long, this will ensure that flat hair will not enhance any long faces. Curly or shaped hair are great hairstyles for long faces.

When asking yourself what’s the best hairstyle for face shape, the most important thing of all to remember is to be confident and happy with your look. There is no point in following all the “rules” if you are not comfortable with the results. So stick to your decision and love yourself!
