These braids are looking very fine, and so is Joan Smalls at the recent CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) 2019 Fashion Awards. We can almost imagine just putting on a nice, warm coat over this outfit and replacing those high-heels with comfortable boots to complete this fall look.

Single Braids

We first saw these braids late last year, but now they’re back and looking totally fantastic. They’re giving us a kind of serious but also mysterious country girl vibe. If you’ve ever watched the film, “The Uninvited,” you’ll know what we’re talking about. One thing’s for sure, they’re definitely perfect for fall, alright.

Accessories Galore

There’s elegance in simplicity, but we can’t deny but we enjoy seeing (and donning) glammed up hair, too. Take a look at this beauty! Can you even count how many clips there are in total? Not that it matters, we’re all over this look. Just goes to show that all the glitz and glamour isn’t always so bad.

Hat Hair

Who says you have to expose your entire hair to showcase how beautiful it looks on you? For this fall season, there’s definitely no need for any of that. Hats are totally in this season. You can even wear whatever hat you have at home to finish up your seasonal get-up. Be it a cap or a beanie, as long as you’re rocking it with your fall outfit, we’ve got our hats off to you!

Low Hairdo

High ponytails might be in this 2019, but this fall, feel free to switch it up a bit. Low ponytails, or braids, or anything low, really, are a good fit for the fall’s more reserved, less energetic vibes. Time to whip out that fashionable country girl side!

Can You Use Essential Oils On Hair?

The jury’s still out on how ‘essential’ essential oils actually are, but we can’t help but admit that they are useful for some things. For example, we do love using essential oils with our diffusers – entering a good-smelling room is certainly relaxing at the end of a long and tiring day.

Take a quick look online though and you’ll see that people are using essential oils on a whole variety of things, which includes… hair?

In this article, we’ll answer the question: can you use essential oils on hair?

Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated liquids that contain the essence of various herbs and plants. They are touted as an all-natural product that can improve one’s mood, lift up spirits, and generally just breathe new energy into people.

These oils are usually rubbed on the skin, smelled, or put in the bath. Their biggest benefit to many people is how good they smell. Many people (like us!) put them in diffusers to keep a room smelling good.

But did you know that essential oils can be used for hair too? This actually goes a long way back, when people still used to put plant extract on their hair to keep it smooth and shiny. Nowadays, we already have conditioners and shampoos to do the job for us, but some people still prefer a more natural method to do their hair care.

Benefits of Essential Oils On Hair

According to personal anecdotes, there are plenty of benefits of essential oils on hair. Many can attest to how essential oils have improved their hair’s condition greatly. Take note that there’s still no scientific study attesting to the effectiveness of essential oils, so do take these with a grain of salt.

  • smoothens hair and removes frizz
  • encourages hair to grow stronger
  • improves hair’s general condition

Side-Effects Of Essential Oils

That said, you shouldn’t be too quick to trust things, especially things that you see on the internet.

Some people have reported seeing negative side-effects of using essential oils. Many of these are allergic reactions, with symptoms such as swelling, itching, and irritation. Even if it’s minor, it’s still not worth risking your health for. Any sign of an adverse reaction and you should wash off the oils with soap and water immediately.

The worse cases also reported experiencing shortness of breath and dizziness. If this happens to you, don’t forget to consult a medical professional right away.

As with everything, essential oils aren’t for everybody, so just be wary before using them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, essential oils can be good for your hair, but they don’t have any scientific data backing them up so it won’t hurt to be careful. If you are planning on using them, try to do a patch test on a small area first, just to check for any ill effects. Of course, if you do experience something that’s out of the ordinary, no matter how small, stop what you’re doing immediately. Nothing in this world is worth your good health, not even the promise of gorgeous locks.

Mythbusters: Is Honey Good For Hair?

It’s sweet. It’s sticky. It’s honey!

Oh, did you know that honey is one of the most versatile ingredients ever? Not only do we use it for cooking, but we can also use it to make all kinds of DIY beauty treatments.

Honey is certainly good for a lot of things, but in today’s episode of ZALA Mythbusters, we just have to ask: is honey good for hair?

zala-mythbusters-honey-good-for-hair

History of using honey on hair

Throughout history, honey has always been one of the most popular ingredients for beauty treatments, regardless of what body part we’re talking about.

It’s impossible to accurately point out the first time that someone ever used honey for their hair, but according to historians, Ancient Egyptians are some of the earliest people to recognize the benefits of honey in one’s beauty regimen.

In fact, Cleopatra, undoubtedly one of the most famous names in Ancient Egypt’s rich history, was said to regularly bathe in milk and honey. Beekeeping was already a common activity for Ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks, so using honey for home-made treatments was certainly not out of the question for them.

Benefits of honey for hair

While Queen Cleopatra may have been using honey to make her skin much smoother and softer, as it was commonly used for, this sweet syrup also had plenty of benefits for her crowning glory.

These benefits include:

  • locks in moisture in the strands. Honey is extremely good in locking in much-needed moisture in your beloved strands. You might have already guessed, considering how thick and sticky it can be.
  • effectively cleanses dirty hair. Honey also has lots of antimicrobial properties, so it also surprisingly makes a good cleanser for your hair.
  • protects hair from bacteria. Thanks to the same properties mentioned above, honey also has the ability to protect your hair from bacteria that could gather from environmental pollution or just dirty surroundings in general.
  • naturally lighten hair. If you’re looking for a way to lighten your hair without having to resort to harsh bleaching treatments, you may want to consider a honey treatment. A chemical process in honey allows it to effectively bleach your hair, provided that you leave it on for an extended period of time.
  • remove hair. Honey is also good for removing thin or fine body hair. If you’ve got sensitive skin and fine hair, you’re better off using honey than any commercial procedure our there.

Mythbusters: Is Avocado Oil Good For Hair?

Also known as the alligator pear for its dry, coarse skin, avocados have slowly risen to become one of the modern world’s healthy superfoods.

In terms of health benefits, avocados can offer a wide range, including the ability to maintain your body’s healthy glucose levels and even to help you maintain your weight. One serving of avocados is already enough to fulfill 27% of your daily recommended fiber intake, which helps greatly in keeping you feel full for a longer period of time.

But other than that, did you know that avocados can also help give you shiny, lovely hair? In today’s ZALA Mythbusters, we’ll discuss if the rumors are really true: is avocado oil good for hair?

zala-mythbusters-avocado-oil-good-for-hair

How Is Avocado Oil Made

Avocado oil is usually made from the extracts of the avocado fruit pulp. It’s pressed cold from the avocado’s own flesh, the fattiest and oiliest part of the entire fruit.

In fact, avocado flesh can actually consist of up to 30% oil, which means that there’s definitely a lot of oil that can be used here, whether it’s for your hair or for cooking purposes.

Believe it or not, avocado oil is also used for cosmetic products since this kind of oil gets easily absorbed by the skin.

The Benefits Of Avocado Oil For Hair

As mentioned above, avocado oil has plenty of uses, including for hair care.

  • Moisturizes your hair. Avocado oil penetrates your strands and moisturizes them deeply.
  • Prevents hair breakage. Since avocado oil contains a lot of fats, it can strengthen your hair shafts and also prevent hair breakage.
  • Weighs light on your strands. Even fine-haired girls can make use of avocado oil since it doesn’t weigh down on your strands. The problem of using most oils is that they’re usually too heavy, which can make an already dull and limp hair much worse than before.
  • Moisturizes the scalp. Avocado oil doesn’t just moisturize your strands, it also provides much-needed moisture to your scalp. Like we’ve mentioned previously in this article, avocado oil is also easily absorbed by your dermis, so that’s definitely a plus.
  • Protects your hair from UV rays. Avocado oil has vitamin E, which not only helps repair and protect your hair but also mitigates the damages caused by the sun’s UV rays.
  • Aids in hair follicle generation. Vitamin D is another nutrient in avocado oil, and this can help in the generation of healthy hair follicles. This, in turns, promotes healthy hair growth.
  • Helps treat dandruff. Avocado oil may not be the main treatment for dandruff, but its nourishing properties can help greatly in reducing those nasty flakes.
