5 Amazing Hair Treatments You Shouldn’t Miss

Think your hair is needing its much needed pamper session? In this article, we’ve listed down five amazing hair treatments that you absolutely shouldn’t miss!

Keratin treatment

Keratin treatments have been around for quite some time now, but they never seem to get the love they deserve from the hair-loving community. Actually, keratin treatments are some of the most amazing hair treatments you can ever get. This is regardless if you do it in a salon or in your own house as a home treatment.

Simply put, this is because keratin is the same material that your own hair is made of. As a natural protein, keratin is found in your strands, your fingernails, and even your own skin. And when it comes to treatments, keratin can instantly give your strands their much-needed boost, making them smoother, shinier, and much more manageable after just one session. If you’re going to try just one treatment on this list, this has got to be it.

Brazilian blow-dry

Ever wanted that ‘just got out of the salon’ look, except you want to still look gorgeous the next day, as well? Well, that’s what a Brazilian blow-dry treatment is for.

For many people, a Brazilian blow-dry treatment is very similar to a keratin treatment. After all, both treatments are meant to make hair instantly smoother and straighter, and they look a lot more natural than old-style rebonding as well.

However, a Brazilian blow-dry tends to be more moisturizing for your hair and can be quicker than a traditional keratin treatment too, albeit more expensive. That’s probably the reason why so many at-home DIY Brazilian blow-dry treatments have been popping up recently, but you should always take precautions before deciding on something so risky, especially if it concerns something as important as your own hair.

Olaplex treatment

Olaplex is a three-step-treatment launched in June 2014 that has eventually become one of the best treatments you can get in salons.

The three steps are, namely, the Bond Multiplier, Bond Perfector, and Hair Perfector. Bond Multiplier first breaks down the bond of each specific strand, effectively starting the repair process. Bond Perfector then rebuilds these broken bonds, strengthening your strands and enhancing their individual quality. Lastly, the hair perfector nourishes your hair and protects it from future breakages and other damage.

You can even go further than that and get the Bond Maintenance shampoo and Bond Maintenance conditioner too. Of course, if you wear hair extensions regularly, we also recommend checking out our own special Froth On You shampoo and Smooth Talker conditioner, guaranteed to give your hair the healthiest sheen ever.

Argan oil conditioning mask

We’ve already talked about how helpful argan oil is for your hair and we’ll never stop adding it to our list of best oils to use for your strands. Now, we’ll talk about why it’s one of thee most amazing hair treatments you shouldn’t miss.

Not only is argan oil an effective hair styling product, it’s also amazing moisturizer especially for dry and damaged hair. It’s one of the oils that salons use for hot oil treatment, a treatment designed to restore your hair’s natural shine and texture.

Other than that, argan oil can also be useful for other hair issues like split ends, extremely dehydrated hair, and even dandruff.

Hair sleeping mask

Who says hair care ends at the salon? Actually, real hair care begins at home, where you have much bigger control over your own locks.

Regardless of how many times you go to the salon for touch-ups, if you don’t know how to take care of your hair properly, you won’t be able to get out of the cycle of bad hair days. And while hair that’s normal or just average in type and texture, a regular hair care routine could do the trick, hair that’s way too dry should also receive some extra care and thought.

If possible, try to incorporate a hair sleeping mask in your regular routine. You can use store-bought brands or even create hair masks on your own.

How many of these salon or at-home treatments have you tried before? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below! And of course, for more tips and tricks, feel free to check out the ZALA blog!

Dos And Donts Of Summer Hair Styling

Your hair suffers quite a bit of daily abuse throughout the summer season. In fact, it’s the harshest season for your hair, due to all the heat and humidity in the hair during summer.

When the heat becomes unbearable, that’s when you need to care for your hair the most. Whether it’s an outdoor event or a beach trip, it’s ideal to keep your hairdo happy and healthy at all times. And in this article, you’ll find some of our best tips to help you avoid that sticky, sweaty summer hair. Presenting… our dos and don’ts of summer hair styling!

zala summer hair styling

Do try updos / side braids

Hot temperatures often lead to dirty and greasy hair, leaving your hair dull and shapeless regardless of how well you styled it before going out. It’s just too much to have your hair out and about in the summer heat. Let updos and braids be your summer hairstyle in such cases! Wear your hair in a chaotic bun or a one-sided braid that guarantees a sweat-free nape and no shapeless hair.

Don’t cut bangs for your hair

Bangs may look cute and charming, but they will also be heavily responsible for sweat oodles on your forehead which can also trigger acne. You don’t want to add acne to your list of problems, do you? Make sure you avoid them while you get your haircut in the summer. If you already have bangs, the simplest solution is to just pin them on the side to keep your forehead free from sweaty, oily bangs.

Do beachy waves

Want those gorgeous beachy waves that you often see in magazines? This hairstyle is actually pretty simple to do. Wash your hair before you go to sleep and apply a conditioning spray afterward. Once it’s completely dry, braid your hair. In the morning, remove your hair from the braids and spritz on some hairspray. Add a bit of shine spray for instantly gorgeous beachy waves. This gives you a fresh look without any heated styling tools.

Don’t use heated styling tools

Speaking of heated styling tools, these are an absolute no-no during the summer! Outdoor elements already do enough damage to your hair, you wouldn’t want to worsen the issue by adding heated styling tools to the mix. This includes hair curlers, flat irons, and even blow drying. Unless it’s absolutely necessary, you can always use alternative methods to straighten, curl, or dry your hair.

Do cover up your hair with a hat

Consider it your back-up plan that will never fail. A hat not just discreetly covers an unwashed, second-day hairstyle, it also shields your scalp from burning during the hottest days of summer.

Don’t make drastic changes to your hair mid-season

Try to avoid dramatic color changes or chemical processes when your hair is most vulnerable to damage. The summer season is dangerous due to its high heat, as it allows the chemicals to damage your hair even more. Pay additional attention to moisturizing your hair if you are unable to skip chemical treatments.

Do the ‘wet look’

When the humidity is at its peak, the simplest strategy to keeping your short hair smooth and frizz-free is to push it back with an old-sch

ool pomade. Use pomade from the roots to the end, then use your fingers to “sculpt” your hair in the style you need. Wait until it gets dry. This is the latest hair trend of many celebrities as it is easy to carry with less effort and damage.

Do the sleek back ponytail

You know what they say, classics are classics for a reason. A sleek back ponytail is a simple style to do and requires less product, less time and less effort. Just pull hair into a tight, high ponytail, gather just below the crown at the back of the head and hold with one side. With the other hand, use a boar-hair brush or mixed boar-hair and synthetic bristle brush to smooth the hair, brushing everything away from the face. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie or elastic, once the hair is pulled back tight and smooth. To finish and add gorgeous shine, warm a few drops of serum. Ponytail is always the best choice for killing the heat as it removes the hair from your neck and face and leaves your hair tied to its place.

Don’t blow out hair

If your hair tends to be frizzy, don’t try to make a complete, smooth blowout as it will only make your hair frizzier. Instead, use a blow-dry lotion and use a flat iron to create soft waves by spinning the iron as you release the hair. This will give you the look of a classic, frizz-free blowout hair. (Use iron for events only, otherwise, you can use a round brush to prevent heating your hair.)

When you know the dos and don’ts of summer hair styling, you can start enjoying your hair all through the heat. The summer season is all about traveling, having fun in the sun, and rocking the mid-year look with friends. Have fun, let your hair be happy in the air!

Preparing Your Hair For The Summer Season

While the summer season is often known as the season of fun and games, it’s also known as the season of warmth and sweat –  and there’s nothing we can do about it other than just making sure that we stay nourished and hydrated all the time.

Unfortunately, most people tend to neglect their hair as if it was less important than their skin or something. On the contrary, your hair, your very own crowning glory, is actually one of the most essential parts when it comes to completing your look for the day.

You might be looking forward to getting tanned on the beaches, or to enjoy some great pina colada this year. Before you go on your next beach adventure, however, here are a few tips for preparing your hair for the summer season!

1. Try to avoid heat as much as you can

Now that the summer season is, do try to avoid heat as much as you can. This means you should refrain from overworking or over-styling your hair using hot tools like curling wands and straightening irons. The weather is already hot enough, which puts a lot of stress on your strands. Don’t make it worse.

Thankfully, summer looks are all about going effortless, looking easy-going and not being too fussy. Just make sure to use the lightweight products – products that will not weigh your hair down and prevent them from flowing around naturally!

2. Use hair oils to moisturize your hair

Knowing how dry and hot the summer season is, it’s only natural to find ways to moisturize your hair.

Experts suggest that using lightweight hair oils will be the best course of action. Apply your chosen oil from the mid-length of your hair towards the end – this will fight both dryness and frizz simultaneously.

If you are dealing with limp hair, however, hair oils, even the most lightweight ones, will just weigh down your hair. If that’s the case, all you have to do is add dry shampoo to your scalp. You can also use a volumizing and texturizing powder to give you that beautiful summer look!

3. Protect your hair from sun damage

Another important thing to do during the summer season is to protect your hair from sun damage. Luckily, there’s a whole range of products available in the market today that comes with UV filters specifically for protecting your hair from possible sun damage.

If you don’t have any products with UV filters, you better run to the store and buy one right now! They don’t cost that much, plus they can greatly protect your hair. In addition to this, you can also apply a deep conditioning mask on your scalp and hair. After this, pull your hair into a bun when you’re out to enjoy the weather. This will assist in protecting the cuticle layer of your hair to minimize the risk of sun damage.

4. Head full of curls? Take extra precaution

People with curly hair might want to take extra precaution during the summer season. Curly hair is already more prone to dryness and frizz than any other hair type and summer season can further worsen those conditions.

If you’ve got curly hair, the primary thing to do is to get a protein-based treatment for the hair for expansion and frizz. Heat activation products should also be considered since these allow the protein to actually get inside the hair and repair it internally. After using a shampoo and conditioner you can also us a leave-in conditioner for your hair.

And that’s it for our sunny weather tips! Now you’re are completely ready for the perfect summer with your gorgeous summer hair! For more tips and tricks, check out our ZALA blog!

Why You Should Get A Balayage Now

We’re totally crazy for balayage. It’s not a new trend per se, but it’s a timeless look that’s bound to come back, again and again, no matter how many other hair trends may come and go.

Of course, there are many reasons why you may want to get a balayage, but here are three reasons why you should get a balayage now!

1. You want to look effortless

Nobody wants to look too made up all the time. There’s just something about putting heaps of make-up on your face and tons of styling products on your hair that automatically turns most people off, even if they don’t know what exactly the problem is. Unless you’re going to a huge event like a prom or something, you’re probably better off with a simpler look. You know how those old sayings go, “there is beauty in simplicity,” “simplicity is elegance,” and “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

A balayage provides just the right amount of texture and style to make your everyday get-up look simple and effortless yet absolutely stunning. The lighter color kind of ‘lifts’ your hair and makes it seem more alive, therefore giving you a more energetic look.

If you’re going for this vibe, you definitely won’t go wrong with a balayage now.

2. You want to look fashionable

Similarly, effortless is now the new ‘in’ thing. Nowadays, many people idolize models or celebrities who look like they literally just got out of bed and went out into the sun already looking stylish and glamorous.

It doesn’t mean that it’s fashionable to show up with messy hair, greasy skin, and sloppy clothes – it just means that it’s cool to look like you don’t care whether you have those things, without actually having those things.

It’s the same reason why people are so in love with the ‘no make-up’ make-up look. As mentioned above, effortless is in; putting in a lot of effort is not.

3. You think it’s time for a change

Changing up your hairstyle

We’re all in need of a change, in one way or another. The reason could be physical, superficial. Perhaps you’ve never had a balayage before. Or maybe you’ve never had this particular color yet. Or maybe, just maybe, you’ve never even colored your hair, not even once.

The reason may also run deep. Maybe you’ve always been teased for your limp and lifeless hair. Maybe your hair doesn’t accentuate your face or highlight the color of your eyes – maybe you’ve always felt self-conscious about that. Or maybe you feel like your self-esteem will improve as long as you change something about yourself.

Whatever your reason may be for wanting a change, getting a balayage now may very well be your ticket to getting that change that you want (and deserve). Sure, it may be a significant change to your entire person but it’s not significant enough to be hard to counter, so there’s pretty much no danger to changing up your hairstyle every now and then.

3 Perfect Spring Hairstyles

We’re already in the second month of spring! If you’re still clueless as to what hairstyle you should be wearing this season, don’t fret – here’s a list of three perfect spring hairstyles that you should try out this season!

ZALA 3 Perfect Spring Hairstyles

1. Short cuts

Short hair cuts

Short hair cuts are totally in this spring, such as bob cuts, pixie cuts, or choppy layered cuts. Regardless of the actual style, short cuts are simply perfect spring hairstyles! This is especially true if you’ve always had long hair and would like to switch things up, for a change. After all, isn’t spring the perfect time to make new changes, at least after winter?

If you prefer a sleeker look, you can also opt for jawbone length hair done with pointed cuts. For a more polished, relaxed look, ask your stylist to do blunt cuts.

Hairstyle Tip: Want to get short hair but scared to make the change? Go shorter… gradually. If you’re coming from waist-length hair, for example, don’t just jump into a bob cut all of a sudden! Have your hair cut to mid-back first, then chest, then collarbone, etc., until you finally reach the length you want. Doing so will avoid you getting shocked by your new look and possibly regretting it, too.

2. High ponytails

Another hairstyle that we’re totally loving right now is high ponytails. High ponytails are classic hairstyles that never seem to go out of style for long.

How much are we loving them, you might ask? As much as Ariana Grande does, that’s how! She switched to a short hairstyle a couple of months back but began incorporating her signature ponytails again shortly after. What does that say about high ponytails, huh?

Hairstyle tip: The easiest way to make a high ponytail is to turn your head upside down and gather all your hair from that position. That way, you can get everything in your ponytail and make sure that it really is high up on the top of your head.

3. Bouncy hair

Bouncy hair

Healthy, bouncy hair is also one of our favorite hair looks. But who are we kidding – does bouncy hair ever go out of season? It seems like regardless of the time of the year, healthy hair that bounces when you walk is always fashionable and sexy.

Hairstyle tip: If you want to make your hair look bouncy, focus on the roots and the scalp. Too much sebum build-up on your scalp can cause your hair to become too oily and even matted, which definitely goes against your bouncy hair goals.
