How To Add Volume By Air-Drying

Air-drying doesn’t just make amazing hairstyles, it also lessens the chance of damaging your hair. If you’ve got time, there’s literally no reason to pick blowdrying over this method.

To help you out, here are some tips to add volume by air-drying your hair!

zala-add-volume-by-air-drying

Use dry shampoo

If you’re in a rush and don’t have the time to wash your hair, you can use dry shampoo to prevent your strands from looking matted and greasy. Dry shampoo instantly lifts your strands, giving them a lighter and non-oily appearance.

Most of the time, you don’t need to do anything else if you’ve already used dry shampoo, as this product is usually already volumising enough.

Sleep on it

This may seem like an unconventional method, but believe us, it totally works.

Try washing your hair an hour or two before going to bed tonight. Make sure to towel dry it until it’s no longer damp, and then apply some of your favorite leave-in conditioner. Run your fingers through your strands a couple of times. When you wake up in the morning, just scrunch your hair a bit and you’ll be good to go!

Volumising hairspray is key

Hairsprays aren’t just for keeping your hair in place – you can also use them to add volume to your air-dried hair.

Simply flip your hair down and shake your strands around. Flip your hair back up and then spray some volumising hairspray about a foot away from your head. You can keep on alternating between spraying your hair with the spray and scrunching it to add more volume. Remember to let the spray dry before you move on to the next section.

If you can’t find any volumising hairspray, you can also use any regular hairspray, except stronghold ones since these will only harden your strands.

Try a hydrating mousse

(c) Pixabay

Aiming for big, beachy waves but don’t have the volume for it? Try a hydrating mousse! You should apply it as soon as you finish towel-drying your hair after getting out of the shower. Make sure that your is still a bit damp, as it works best that way.

The trick here is to pull your hair into a bun and then let it fully dry that way. Once you let your hair down, you’ll see your beach waves in an instant!

Use thickening spray for fine hair

If it isn’t obvious, those with fine hair usually find it harder to add volume to their strands. Don’t worry though, you’ve got thickening spray to the rescue! Simply spritz on a few sprays to your strands and shake them around until you get your desired volume.

Additional tip: you can also use sea salt sprays to add more texture to your fine hair. This, in addition to the thickening spray, will ensure that your hair is volumised in no time at all.

Of course, if you’re really in a hurry and can’t find the time to add volume by air-drying hair, you can always just use our high-quality hair extensions! Did you say thick, gorgeous locks? You got it!

Mythbusters: Is Beer Good For Hair?

We already talked about Bella Thorne using beer to lighten her hair before, but here’s the real question: is beer good for hair in general? It may lighten hair, but who knows if there are negative side effects that come with it, right?

So is beer really good for hair? In today’s ZALA mythbusters, we’ll explain whether or not this myth is true.

zala-mythbusters-beer good for hair

History of this ‘myth’

Although it may seem strange to some, beer treatments are actually not unheard of.

Prior to Bella’s stint, folks from the 90’s were already familiar with this hair treatment thanks to a line of beer shampoos from a company called Back to Basics. The shampoos came in brown plastic bottles, similar to how real beer bottles look like.

Benefits of beer hair treatments

Beer is said to have a lot of beneficial properties for hair. This is largely due to its ingredients like malt and alcohol, as well as nutrients and protein that can be found in beer.

  • Nourishes and strengthens hair
  • Repairs damaged hair
  • Restores moisture to your strands
  • Helps regain hair’s luscious state
  • Makes hair shinier
  • Tightens hair cuticles

Drawbacks of this hair treatment

However, do keep in mind that other people have reported experiencing negative results from beer hair treatments as well.

For one, beer may be too drying for some people. Depending on the specific brand you decide to use, it can have an alcohol content of up to 30%, which may be too harsh for some people’s hair. Alcohol, in general, can strip away your hair’s natural essential oils, which will cause your strands to appear limp and dehydrated.

Two, beer smell is not too pleasant for a lot of people. Even if you try to cover it up with perfume or hair spray, the smell will still be very noticeable. Now, it’s up to you if you’re fine walking around with the smell, but for people who are working in a corporate setting, this may not be the best DIY hair treatment.

Last but not least, beer can be quite expensive. Depending on how thick or long your hair is, you may spend a fortune just trying to maintain this routine.

In a way, yes, it can be said that beer is good for hair. It can transform your hair in ways you may not have expected. It can restore moisture, strengthen your strands, and prevent your hair from breaking too much.

That said, not everyone has good experiences with beer treatments. Some hair types may get even more dehydrated when using this treatment. As always, it’s up to your discretion whether you want to try out a certain DIY treatment or not.

What’s The Right Hair Dye For You?

In this guide, we’ll detail the 3 steps you’ll need to go through in order to figure out the right hair dye for your latest color.

zala-right-hair-dye

Determining your skin tone

The first step is determining your skin tone. We all have different skin tones, and it’s important to know yours first in order to find a hair dye color that will complement it.

Warm skin tone

In order to find out if you have a warm skin tone, answer the following questions:

  • Does your skin seem to have a yellow or golden undertone?
  • Are the veins inside your arms green?
  • Is your eye color black, brown, or a similar shade?
  • Do you have gold or brown specks in your eyes?
  • Is your hair color black, brown, red, or dark blonde?
  • Are you curiously resistant against sunburn?
  • Does gold jewelry look better on you than silver?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you probably have a warm skin tone.

Cool skin tone

In order to find out if you have a cool skin tone, answer the following questions:

  • Does your skin seem to have a pink or reddish undertone?
  • Are the veins inside your arms blue?
  • Is your eye color blue, green, gray, or a similar shade?
  • Do you have blue or green specks in your eyes?
  • Is your hair color light blonde, light brown, or other light colors?
  • Are you always getting burned by the sun?
  • Does silver jewelry look better on you than gold?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then you probably have a cool skin tone.

Neutral skin tone

If your skin has no noticeable veins, or if the veins have no outstanding color, then you’re lucky to have a neutral skin tone. Those with a neutral skin tone can wear and choose virtually any color and any jewelry they want, as they look good in everything.

Choosing the right hair color

Once you’ve determined the correct skin tone, it’s time to choose the right hair dye that will suit you best.

Hair colors for warm skin tone

People with warm skin tones tend to look better in warm, earthy hues like brown, orange, and yellow. Gold jewelry always looks amazing in them, compared to silver jewelry.

Mocha Brown ZALA Clip-in Hair Extensions

The rule of thumb for warm skin tones is to choose a color that has these main colors as the base: brown, red, gold.

  • browns – dark brown, warm brown, chestnut brown, chocolate, mocha, golden brown, golden caramel
  • reds – auburn red, dark red, red-orange, copper
  • golds – warm gold, golden blonde, bronze

If you have light skin with warm undertones, some of your options are also red-based and gold-based lighter blondes like strawberry blonde and honey blonde. If you have olive skin, you can also choose richer brown shades like ebony brown, as well as mocha. Lastly, if you have dark skin, it’s best to go for darker browns like mahogany, maple, or toffee.

Remember, don’t choose colors that have blue or violet as the base or it will make your skin look ashy or washed out.

Hair colors for cool skin tone

People with cool skin tones tend to look better in equally cool hues like blue, red, or violet. Silvery jewelry looks so much better on them than gold jewelry due to their pink undertones.

Ice Queen Platinum ZALA Clip-in Hair Extensions

The rule of thumb for cool skin tones is to pick out colors that have blue, violet, or purple as the base color. However, the range of suitable colors for cool skin tones is much wider than that of warm skin tones. Aside from red, dark golds, and dark browns, most colors are fair game for cool skin tones.

  • ash – ash brown, ash-blonde
  • cool blonde – champagne blonde, platinum, icy white, nordic white, mink
  • light browns – wheat blond, sand blond, walnut brown

If you have dark skin with cool tones, you can also make do with black and espresso.

Picking out the dye

Even the right colored dye isn’t the right hair dye if it’s not the right kind.

Other than the color, the other main thing that you have to consider when picking out the dye is how permanent you want it.

There are three main types of dye in this category: permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary.

  • Permanent dyes – these dyes stay on your hair until you cut off the colored parts. If you’re really sure of the color and you really want to go for it, permanent dyes are less of a hassle to maintain than semi-permanent dyes. If you want to go lighter, you can also just keep using lighter colored permanent dyes since they stack up. But of course, it still doesn’t beat bleach. You probably won’t go from black or brown to white with just multiple dye sessions.
  • Semi-permanent dyes – it doesn’t wash away as fast as temporary hair dyes, but they do fade with constant washing. But if you just want to change the tone of your hair, this is usually good enough.
  • Temporary dyes – As its name implies, this kind of dye does not stay forever. It usually washes out after just a month or two.

We hope this guide helped you in picking out the right hair dye for you! Lighten Hair Naturally With Chamomile

There plenty of options to those who want to lighten their hair, but most of those methods carry the risk of damaging or drying out strands.

Considering how important your crowning glory is, it’s a must to use extreme care and caution when doing anything to change it. In this article, we’ll explore if it’s really possible to lighten hair naturally with chamomile.

zala-lighten-hair-naturally-with-chamomile

Hair lightening and bleaching

It’s normal to want to change up your look every now and then. Sometimes, that involves having to dye or bleach your hair in order to lighten it.

However, there are lots of horror stories that have stemmed from harsh chemical treatments like bleaching.

That’s why it’s always better to use proven natural treatments instead of chemical treatments, as the latter tends to be harsher and more problematic for your hair.

Lighten hair naturally with chamomile

This is where chamomile comes in.

This medicinal plant has long been used for natural hair lightening, thanks to its natural properties.

Chamomile contains three flavonoids called apigen, quercetin, and azulene. Apigen and azulene work together to brighten the hair, while quercetin is the one that lightens the hair. This flavonoid has an enzyme that can limit the production of melanin, which is the same thing that gives color to your strands, as well as your skin.

It may not be as quick as chemical treatments, but over time, chamomile treatments can also effectively lighten your hair, sans all the possible damages and breakages.

How to use chamomile for hair lightening

The good thing is that it’s easy to DIY these chamomile treatments to lighten your hair naturally. Here are two ways on how you can try it out for yourself. Just follow the steps below and you’ll create perfectly light, silky, and best of all, undamaged tresses!

Chamomile rinse

This method can help lighten hair naturally over time. It’s not going to be a dramatic change, and you may not even notice the change as it’s happening. But as times goes by, you’ll see a noticeable difference from when you first incorporated this trick into your hair care routine.

Keep in mind that dark-haired individuals may not see much of a difference, unlike those with lighter hair. The lighter the hair is, the better this method will take effect.

Ingredients:

  • chamomile tea bags
  • hot water

Steps:

  • Leave the tea bags steeping in hot water until it cools down.
  • Get into the shower and wash your hair normally with regular shampoo and conditioner.
  • Get the cooled down chamomile tea and apply it to your hair. Don’t wash your hair afterward; instead, just let it air-dry.

Chamomile mask

If you want to strengthen chamomile’s ability to lighten your hair. you can also do a chamomile mask once or twice a week. This is a bit stronger than a simple chamomile risk and you might be able to see a difference right from the first use.

The yogurt in this mask also helps make your strands moisturized and soft. A win-win in terms of hair masks, don’t you think?

Ingredients:

  • chamomile tea bags
  • yogurt
  • hot water

Steps:

  • Let the chamomile tea bags steep in hot water until cool.
  • Add in plain yogurt to the mix. Combine well.
  • Wash your hair with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
  • Use a comb to spread the mixture to your clean, damp strands.
  • Leave the mixture on your strands for 30 to 60 minutes.

Tips to lighten hair naturally with chamomile

  • You can do the chamomile rinse every day, until you’ve reached your desired color.
  • You can mix chamomile with other ingredients that can also lighten strands such as lemon, for example.
  • Don’t forget to do a patch test first with the hair mask before applying the mixture to your whole hair.
  • You can also add the chamomile + lemon mix to your hair before you go out into the sun. But of course, don’t be surprised, as the sun’s rays will certainly activate the mixture and cause your strands to become substantially lighter.
