How Many Pieces of Tape Hair Extensions for a Full Head?

20 piece pack

Many people often inquire about 20 pieces packs as this is the cheapest available pack. This is ONLY considered a ‘booster’ pack for those who already have tape extensions and want a few new pieces or need extra volume. A 20 piece pack will NOT be enough for any hair type as this will only make 10 sandwiches of hair. When putting in tape extensions, 2 pieces are sandwiched at the root over sections of your hair.  As you can probably imagine, a 20 piece set will definitely not be enough for a full head of hair.

40 piece pack

The least amount of pieces we recommend for all customers is our 40 piece packs. This pack is enough for thin to normal hair types and is ideal for ladies with fine hair. A 40 piece pack is considered a standard amount of tape hair extensions, as many people find they use between 30-40 pieces. This, of course, creates 20 sandwiches of hair. We are absolutely in love with this before and after photo below using our premium ZALA Tape extensions!

60 piece pack

Finally, the 60 piece pack. This amount is perfect for those with thick hair or wants to add a lot of overall volume. For those whose natural hair is medium/thick, or have quite a coarse hair type, this pack is perfect. We usually recommend this option when we get asked how many pieces of tape hair extensions for a full head of hair. This will obviously create 30 sandwiches which are a lot to hold if your hair is not super thick. Our 60 piece sets will create a full overall look with extra thickness and super volume.

Keep in mind! Your hairstyle and cut are very important when blending tape hair extensions. It does not only depend on how many pieces you purchase for a full head. If you are struggling to make your extensions blend, your hair should usually always be thinned out towards the ends. This can be achieved with the use of layers or specific cutting techniques. Having thinner ends in your natural hair will create a seamless blend and no harsh lines where your natural hair ends.

We hope this helps you determine exactly how many pieces of tape extensions for a full head of hair! For our premium range of European Tape Hair extensions, click here.

Back to school hairstyles

We’ve gathered a few secret 2015 hair trends that are rising in popularity and perfect for a day at school. Experiment with some of these gorgeous back to school hairstyles:

The pinned princess pouf

This back to school hairstyle is great for keeping unwanted flyaways out of your face during the day, but still keeps you feeling glam and tidy all at the same time.

You’ll need a few bobby pins, hairspray, a comb, a hair straightener or blow dryer (optional). Simply pin a large amount of hair at the top of the head, and tease downwards with a comb to create lots of volume. You can also create this affect using a blow dryer if you are after extreme volume. Pin the ends of the hair by pulling and twisting the ends, all while keeping the pouf balanced.

You can spray a light layer of hairspray to give the pouf long lasting shape throughout the day. You can also straighten the rest of your hair to complete your cute pinned pouf look!

The big ballerina bun

The ballerina bun is perfect for staying fresh and still looking presentable at school but also keeping it quite classy and elegant. This technique is easy, and you can create the perfect ballerina bun for yourself simply by purchasing a bun donut located at any hair care store.

You’ll need a hair brush, an elastic tie, some bobby pins, a bun donut, and some hairspray for extra strength to control any flyaways. Start by brushing the hair and continue by putting your hair into a high ponytail (make the ponytail where you want the bun to sit). Apply the ponytail straight through the middle of the bun donut, allowing the rest of the ponytail to fountain around the bun donut. Cover the donut by shuffling around any extra pieces of hair, you can then bobby pin any excess strands.

Spray a layer of hairspray over the top for a sleek and shiny look, and voila! A big beautiful ballerina bun.

 The fishtail side braid

This hairstyle whilst being visually beautiful adds a twist to the standard braid, by creating a unique yet simple look that will have all your classmates asking how to achieve it. The side fishtail braid looks best with longer hair, so wearing this style is a perfect excuse to show off your ZALA hair extensions at school!

The great thing about this hairstyle is that it doesn’t have to be perfect, the look is even more sensational when you add your own personal touch to the braid.

To achieve the look, sweep your hair to the side, and then split into two sections, from the right section pull out a small strand of hair from underneath and cross it over and underneath the left section, so your other hand holds the strand. Then repeat the other way starting with a small strand from the left side and then going across and underneath to the right side. Repeat this motion down the length of your hair, then secure with a elastic band.

To create a messier look gently pull at the braid, then spray a small amount of hairspray to it. This back to school hairstyle is sure to label you the school’s hottest trendsetter.

We hope this has helped you achieve some great back to school hairstyles!

The washing routine: Maintaining tape hair extensions

The most important thing about the upkeep of high quality tape hair extensions, will always come down to the types of products that are regularly used in the hair. Consider always using sulphate and alcohol free products on the hair as this can cause dryness and perhaps decrease the value of the product. Keep in mind that the aim is to keep the hair looking as natural and healthy as possible. So the amount of heat styling tools and any sort of unhealthy product should always be limited whenever possible. Here at ZALA, we recommend using protein-rich products for the hair. This is to ensure they are always in their best possible condition.

Sleeping routine

When it comes to wearing and maintaining tape hair extensions, your sleeping routine will always play a vital role in the quality and condition of your tape hair extensions. This is because when you sleep, the friction between the adhesive in your hair can cause unwanted an excessive tangles and knotting. Consider sleeping with your hair braided or perhaps loosely plaited all while being completely dry. This will keep the hair straight and under control. Leaving no room for flyaway’s or any potential tangles. It would also be a good idea to invest in a silk or satin slip over your pillow for the ultimate, soft glossy locks as you wake in the mornings.

Brushing routine

It is quite easy to keep good care in maintaining tape hair extensions just by regularly brushing your hair.  We highly recommend for all our customers, (especially tape) that brushing your hair with a soft-bristled or loop brush will keep them groomed and well maintained. This separates any loose hairs from the full set and keeps your tape hair extensions looking healthier and fuller. Our ZALA loop brushes can be purchased on our hair extension accessories page for a low price of only $9.95 AUD. To purchase a loop brush, please click here.

General maintenance

Here at ZALA, we recommend for a general maintenance check (maybe even tapes to be re-applied) every 8-10 weeks. This is because the tapes can grow with the natural hair and will need to be moved back closer to the scalp. This will keep your tape hair extensions looking healthy and nourished. Please also avoid any contact with the adhesive when using any treatment products including any natural oils or conditioners. The aim is to keep the adhesive nice and fresh, and as long-lasting as possible. This is also very important when maintaining tape hair extensions.

Step 1: Locate

First of all, locate all the starting points between the tape hair extensions and your own hair. This may be easier if you tie up all your remaining hair with sectioning clips or elastic bands.

How to remove tape hair extensions

Locate the tape hair extensions

Step 2: Spray

After locating the tapes, spray on our ZALA tape hair extensions solvent/glue remover. (This is a great cleaner/remover without the harsh chemicals; this solvent is fast acting on most soft bonds adhesives and tapes while still being gentle on the skin). Do not use a sparse amount of solvent, you must be generous while spraying to ensure you have enough solvent to remove the adhesive on the tape. A limited amount of solvent will work poorly.

Step 3: Apply

If while removing the tape hair extensions you feel that your own hair is pulling therefore causing damaging friction, keep applying the solvent until the tapes are removed easily without anymore pull on your own natural hair.

Step 4: Wash

There is a slight possibility that all the tapes may still not be 100% removed. We would highly recommend for you to wash your hair with cold water, while also scrubbing quite forcefully. But be sure that you are also gentle enough not to damage your own roots. Use an adequate amount of shampoo on your hair until your hair is completely clean. Be sure to never use hot water for the wash as there is a slight chance it will melt the adhesive on the tape. The reason for cold water is because it solidifies the glue, and as a result it will remove the adhesive.

Step 5: Dry

Even while drying your hair after you have washed it use a cold setting as hot air will have the same effect that hot water has on the adhesive.

Step 6: Comb

After you have dried your hair, comb through efficiently to remove any remaining pieces of tape. The key on how to remove tape hair extensions is to be patient and coherent, and you will achieve great results with little to no great deal of effort.

Clip in hair extensions vs tape hair extensions

The battle is on! Clip in hair extensions vs tape hair extensions, which hair extension method is best? Which is more popular?

Step by step, we break down the positives and negatives between clip in hair extensions and tape hair extensions. Read below to find out the results for clip in hair extensions vs tape hair extensions.

clip in hair extensions vs tape hair extensions
clip vs tape

 Clip in hair extensions

clip in hair extensions
Clip in hair extensions

Clip in hair extensions are the least permanent technique of all the hair extension methods available today. The hair weft has small clips sewn into them. A set of clip in hair extensions will usually have about eight or nine strips that are all placed at different sections of the head. This creates the right amount of body and volume for the person using them.

Positives:

1) Comfort + speed + easiness for how they can be applied/removed.
2) Here at ZALA, you will be guaranteed value for the weight/thickness.
3) You can adjust the thickness/volume to your needs.
4) Clip in hair extensions are very hair safe meaning no damage can be made to the natural hair follicle once applied.

Negatives:

1) They cannot be worn during sleep. This may cause excessive friction against the already sensitive scalp.
2) Depending on the brand and quality, the clips may move around in the weft causing them to separate from the weft. At ZALA, we use only the best quality professional salon silicon clips to ensure no movement occurs.
3) Clip in hair extensions can be harder to layer to match your hair as each application might be slightly different.

Tape hair extensions

Tape hair extensions

Tape hair extensions are a widely known hair extension technique. They are designed for people who are seeking those extra inches of hair but would like a more permanent method of extension. They come attached with strips of clear double sided tape which is then attached to the base of the weft. These wefts are then taped to the start of the hair at the scalp. This results in a longer lasting method of hair extension.

Positives:

1) Tape hair extensions can last 7-9 weeks, and can be re-applied 4 times when using high quality hair like ZALA.
2) They look very natural and can be styled into your hair easily with no extensive effort involved.
3) If they are applied correctly they should be a safe form of hair extension for your hair. This is ensuring that you follow the correct care routine for your particular set of tape hair extensions.

Negatives:

1) If they are not applied correctly they can be messy and not sit secure or flat against the head.
2) Application experience is needed to apply the tape hair extensions.
3) Tape hair extension solvent is needed to remove them. You will normally need two people to complete this process.

Clip in hair extensions vs tape hair extensions….so who has won? The results are a tie!

Clip in hair extensions and tape hair extensions are extremely difficult to compare against each other as they both offer completely different benefits and limitations. We are just happy that there are two very suitable existing techniques available to cater to everyone’s personal lifestyle and needs.
