We are seriously lusting over this look at ZALA! And although it may look intricate, it’s actually super easy! So, let’s get into exactly how to achieve this romantic updo:

First things first, apply hair extensions! This step is optional, but we LOVE to apply a set of ZALA hair extensions before styling as these add tonnes of volume and make all the difference for end result. Our gorgeous model Eliza is wearing her ZALA 20″ tape hair extensions in Chestnut Brown #6 and Snickers #4/12.
Start by curling your hair. Although you won’t see the curls, they make styling updos SO much easier! For this look, we used the ZALA Cosmo Wand which is our recommended styling tool for Valentines day.
Next, section off your hair into 3 parts: two medium sections either side and one large section at the back.
Then, take a piece from the back section and tie into low side ponytail. This forms the base of the look and will act as the foundation to work around.
Time to start layering! Taking small pieces at a time, twist, braid, wrap and pin around your ponytail. The key to this look is texture, so keep alternating techniques and the direction of the hair each time.
Continue layering and pinning until all your hair is secured in the updo. This may take some time, but the end result is stunning!
Gently pull out a few pieces around your face and finish with a light spritz of hairspray.

Then, pull your hair to one side and split into three sections, securing the middle third into a low pony. Once you’ve got the base of the look secured, it’s time to start layering! The key to this style is taking small pieces and twisting, braiding and pinning to create all that texture. Alternative between each technique until all hair is pinned in place, and you’re done!

One of the main questions we get asked at ZALA is how to wear a ponytail with tape hair extensions. We know, the struggle hiding tape tabs is too real. So, let’s get into everything you need to know when styling your locks in a ponytail!

APPLICATION

Before we get to styling, it’s important to consider the position the tapes are applied in your hair. If you’re big on up-dos or ponytails are your go to style, let your hairdresser know! This will ensure your extensions are applied in a technique best suited for up do’s and makes all the difference when styling your locks.

PLACEMENT

Our top tip on achieving a seamless ponytail with tape in extensions all comes down to placement! To ensure the tapes are undetectable, you’re going to want to opt for a medium to low ponytail. This is so that the tape tabs lay flat against your head and are completely undetectable.

STYLING

When styling your pony, the aim of the game is to get those tape tabs as flat against the head as possible. Our favourite way to style a pony with tape hair extensions is in this super pretty twisted look. It’s so stunning and really easy to achieve, too!

Simply secure your locks into a low or medium ponytail, leaving two sections out from either front side of your hair. Take one section and wrap around the base of your ponytail, bobby pin in place and repeat on the other side. These pieces not only conceal your hair elastic, but also easily hide any tapes that are showing! If so, use your fingers to carefully pull and manoeuvre the hair to cover the tape tabs. And you’re done! A completely seamless ponytail with tape hair extensions!
