  1. Using a tail comb, start by sectioning off your hair at the middle of your ears to the top of your head. Secure this with an elastic to create your half up ponytail. You can leave the look here, but to recreate those Arianna vibes, we’re going to be using clip in hair extensions for some serious volume!
  2. It can be a little tricky applying a full set of clip ins to create an updo. Which is we we LOVE using our ZALA ponytail extensions as they are super easy to apply for an instant length and volume boost! Simply hook the clip into the base of your ponytail and secure the velcro. Then wrap around and pin in place!
  3. Now this step is optional, but we applied a 5 piece clip in set to the rest of the hair to balance out the look and add some length.
  4. Once your hair extensions are applied, it’s time to start curling! To create these playful curls, we use the Spiral attachment on the ZALA Cosmo Wand. Remember you can safely style the human hair ponytails only.
  5. Finish with some texturizing spray and you’re done! It’s really that simple!half up half down ponytail

We’re feeling some serious Arianna vibes with this look! Keep your eyes peeled for our pony styles lookbook featuring an in-depth tutorial of this half up half down ponytail! Let us know what you think of the half up half down ponytail below.

How to Maintain Tape Hair Extensions

If you’re a hair extension lover, you know you’re locks are life! Which is why it’s super important to know exactly how to look after your ZALA tape hair extensions. Well, look no further – we’ve got you covered! Read on for our full guide on how to maintain tape hair extensions to keep them feeling soft & silky and in their best condition for as long as possible.

How to Maintain Tape Hair Extensions

As tape hair extensions are styled and washed much more frequently than clip ins, they will require a little extra TLC in order to get the best looking tresses! Remember, each time you wash & style your extensions it will strip the natural oils in the hair. But don’t worry! There are a few key tips and tricks that will help to restore their condition.

WASHING YOUR TAPE HAIR EXTENSIONS

It’s super important to be using the right shampoo and conditioner on your luxury locks. This is our most common question when we’re asked how to maintain tape hair extensions. High quality products that are sulphate & paraben free as these are much more gentle on the hair and avoid drying your extensions out.

Once you’ve found a good sulphate and paraben free shampoo and conditioner, don’t go washing your hair everyday! This will be super stripping and only lead to dull, dry locks. Instead, try and space out your washes as much as possible and grab yourself some dry shampoo to get you through!

CONDITIONING TREATMENTS

Next up, our favourite tip on how to maintain tape hair extensions. Indulge in conditioning treatments! The more moisture, the better. A super nourishing deep conditioning treatment applied 1-2 times a week along with a leave in conditioner applied after washing are our essentials for keeping your tape extensions silky smooth. A nourishing hair oil such as moroccan, coconut or argon oil are also amazing at keeping tape hair extensions healthy. Not only do they aid in adding moisture to the hair, they’re also perfect for adding shine after styling. If you don’t have any of these products on hand, check out our DIY hair masks below.

HEAT STYLING

Now as much as we love straightening and curling our ZALA’s, it can take its toll on the condition of your tape hair extensions, much like it can your natural hair. Remember, heat styling does include hair drying. So, try to let your hair dry naturally as much as possible. If you can, try opting for some heatless hairstyles. Otherwise, just make sure you’re always using heat protectant before styling and using tools on a low to medium heat setting.

REAPPLICATION & LIFESPAN

how to maintain tape hair extensions

Lastly, if your tape extensions just aren’t looking and feeling their best, it may actually be down to reapplication rather than your hair care routine! If you’re finding your extensions are a little lack lustre and prone to tangling, it might be time to reapply or replace your set. As a guide, we recommend reapplying every 8 weeks and replacing your set between every 3-12 months.

How to Wash Clip In Hair Extensions

Today we’re taking it back to the basics! It’s important to know the right way to wash your hair extensions to keep them in tip top condition and super silky for as long as possible. Read on for our full guide on how to wash clip in hair extensions!

how to wash clip in hair extensions

Before we get into detail on how to wash clip in hair extensions, remember to only wash your extensions minimally to keep them clean, whilst maintaining their soft & silky condition. As clip in hair extensions cannot recreate natural oils to nourish themselves, each wash will begin to shorten the life of your hair extensions. Given this, we recommend only wash your clip ins if there is product build up, they hold an odour, or you notice a change in the appearance or feel 🙂

HOW TO WASH CLIP IN HAIR EXTENSIONS

  1. Before washing your extensions, make sure they’re knot free and all clips are closed shut. Our favourite tool for detangling our clip ins is the ZALA Tangle Teaser. It gentle detangles whilst preventing shedding & snagging.
  2. Fill your sink with warm water and take your first piece, folding the wefts for easy grip.
  3. Piece by piece, gently submerge your extensions into the water. Try to avoid swishing or swirling the hair as this may cause the hair to tangle.
  4. One piece at a time, take a small amount of shampoo and gently spread throughout the hair. Repeat on each piece, setting each aside as you go. Always use a sulphate & paraben free shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair extensions.
  5. Once all pieces have been shampooed, empty your sink & close the plug. Then, rinse each piece with clean water under the running tap.
  6. After your set is nice and clean, repeat steps 4 & 5 with a ultra hydrating conditioner and set them aside for 10-15 minutes before rinsing to deeply nourish the hair.
  7. Next, lay your set flat onto a towel and leave them to dry naturally overnight. This is the more gentle way to dry your extensions, minimising any heat damage & unwanted frizz.
  8. Once all the hair is dry, smooth over each piece with your hair straightener whilst brushing through and they’ll be left feeling ultra soft. Remember to always use heat protectant!

And there you have it! Our guide on how to wash clip in hair extensions, the right way 😉 If you want to watch the full process, check out our quick & easy tutorial below:
